ELECTRI International is sponsoring a competition for NECA Student Chapters and will award up to $20,000 to the winning NECA Student Chapter. The competition encourages construction management and electrical engineering students to take an active role in improving access to electricity in rural, developing communities within the United States or internationally.

The Student Passport Initiative supports NECA Student Chapters in meaningful service learning experiences in developing communities. Working with colleges and universities across the country, ELECTRI’s goal is to promote the growth of sustainable programs that advance the development of efficient and sustainable energy solutions and cultivate the professional development and personal growth of students.

Each NECA Student Chapter may enter the Student Passport competition by submitting a proposal that addresses the rationale for the location selected and full project details. The project proposal must include confirmation from the NECA Student Chapter faculty advisor that the project is the work of the members of the Student Chapter and that the project (if selected) will or will not provide academic credits for each student team member. The project must be endorsed by one or more of the following: an electrical contractor, utility, manufacturer, distributor, or other organization in the chosen area verifying the feasibility and value of the proposed project.

ELECTRI will deliver a Request for Proposal to each NECA Student chapter by March 2, 2015. Full details of the proposal requirements and application process are available at ELECTRI's website at
