General Cable has joined the ELECTRI Council as a $100,000 Founder. This Fortune 500 Company, headquartered in Kentucky, has been a wire and cable innovator for over 170 years. With more than 13,000 associates and $6 billion in sales, General Cable is one of the top three wire and cable manufacturers in the world.

Brian Moriarty, Senior VP, General CableBrian Moriarty, Senior VP, represented General Cable at the January 2015 ELECTRI Council meeting. Responsible for the company’s Global Sales Strategy & North America Sales, he sees tremendous opportunity for ELECTRI International and General Cable. He recently sat down with ELECTRI to explain.

ELECTRI: Was the ELECTRI Council meeting what you had expected?

BRIAN MORIARTY: It was an excellent experience. During 2014, we had talked with some of our industry allies who are already Council members. When we learned about what ELECTRI accomplishes and compared that to our company goals, we were convinced that an investment in ELECTRI is a worthwhile investment in our future and will help keep electrical construction viable.

ELECTRI: You had mentioned your interest in ELECTRI’s Talent Initiative. What do you think needs to be accomplished?

MORIARTY: When we look at highly skilled workers, we see the demographics shifting. Experienced workers are moving towards the latter phase of their careers. That means a talent exit. So, ELECTRI’s focus on future talent is critical. Students have to understand that this is an attractive place for a career with all of the advancements being made in wind, solar and nuclear power.

ELECTRI: We know that it is important for the manufacturers on the ELECTRI Council to get a solid return on their investment. Going forward, what does General Cable see in its relationship with the Council?

Moriarty: We are heavily invested in technology and engineering. For example, at our Tech Center in Indianapolis, one of eight we have worldwide, we have a team of 30 engineers working on cutting-edge, innovative products that will help improve safety and efficiency for electrical construction. I look forward to having interested Council members learn more about our efforts in research, development and testing.

General Cable’s vision is to be the most highly regarded and successful wire and cable company in the world as measured by our customers, investors, suppliers and employees

Our operating philosophy is to act with the speed and agility of a small company but with the strength and the power of a large company. We look at our relationship with ELECTRI the same way.
